Taste the Piccadilly Valley wine sub-region

The Piccadilly Trail map.

The Piccadilly Valley, in South Australia's Adelaide Hills, specialises in the production of cool climate wines, particularly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with an added focus on premium sparkling wine production.

With the highest altitudes in the Adelaide Hills, fruit here ripens in some of the coolest growing conditions in Australia. And with a whopping 1,200mm of rainfall a year, there is little need to irrigate.

It’s these unique conditions that led to our area receiving appellation in 2000, when the Piccadilly Valley wine sub-region was officially designated.

So whether it's the lifted perfumes and elegant structure of the Pinot Noir or the texture and length of fine Chardonnay, Piccadilly Valley's bonafide cool climate imprint is a feature of the wines grown and made here.

The cellar door is rustic, warm and inviting – and has, like its wine, stood the test of time! Featuring a magnificent deck overlooking the estate vineyard and Mount Lofty, it's the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine, with a selection of local cheeses to help you take in the view.

Winemakers Candice Helbig and Frewin Ries (a wife-and-husband team) specialise in small-batch, single-vineyard Pinot Noir, Grüner Veltliner and Chardonnay. Pull up a pew at the sunny terrace bar or plonk yourself beside the roaring stone fireplace on cool days, and taste through wine flights, wine by the glass or bottle, and local cheese grazing plates. By the way, CRFT is pronounced 'craft'.
